On September 3, 2015 all Iredell County pre-hospital personnel will discontinue the use of long spine boards (LSB) for transport of trauma patients. We will begin using a modified spinal immobilization protocol using only a cervical collar and will move patients while maintaining neutral spinal positioning. Studies have shown that long spine boards cause trauma to the body after just 45 minutes after a patient is secured to them. Long spine boards may still be used to move a patient to the stretcher.
