Sheriff Darren Campbell stated: On Friday, August 19, 2022, deputies with the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office Interstate Criminal Enforcement (ICE) Team stopped a black in color BMW SUV with Pennsylvania registration plates for motor vehicle violations.

Based on both the driver and passenger acting in a suspicious manner and information being provided not making sense, Canine Connie was called upon to assist in the stop.

Connie arrived on the scene, and while she was walking around the BMW, she made a positive alert for the presence and odor of an illegal drug in the vehicle. 

A search of the vehicle uncovered three grams of Cocaine, a handgun that was hidden under a seat, and 14,500.00 dollars.   After running the handgun serial number through criminal databases, it was determined the gun was reported stolen out of Atlanta, Georgia.

Gatling and Cole were transported to the Iredell County Detention Center where they were both charged with: Felony Possession of Cocaine, Felony Possession of a Stolen Firearm,                               Misdemeanor Carry Concealed Handgun, and Misdemeanor Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Gatling was also charged with, Felony Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon.

Both were placed under 80,000.00 dollars secured bond by Magistrate R. Imes.
