[ARCHIVED] Canine Levi tracks a suspect that fled on foot

Date/Time of Offense: Wednesday, August 17, 2022.

 

Offense(s)/Charge(s): Felony Fleeing to Elude

                                      Felony Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle

                                       Misdemeanor Resisting Public Officer

                                      Careless and Reckless Driving

                                      Misdemeanor Injury to Real Property

                                      Misdemeanor Driving While License Revoked

 

Location of Incident: Wilkesboro Highway at Scotts Creek Road, Statesville.

 

Suspect(s): Jason Bart Johnson, 44 Years Old 

                    3939 Lefevers Road

                    Vale, North Carolina 28168

 

Sheriff Darren Campbell stated: In the early morning hours of Wednesday, August 17, 2022, Iredell County Sheriff’s Office Deputy C. Levan attempted to stop a vehicle traveling on Wilkesboro Highway for a traffic violation. The driver of the car pulled into the parking lot of the Food Lion on Wilkesboro Highway and then drove off at a high rate of speed. Deputy C. Levan lost sight of the vehicle for a brief period; additional deputies responded to the area to assist in locating the car.

 

Deputy G. Wyatt located the suspect vehicle a few minutes later, one mile north of the Food Lion parking lot; it had been wrecked and abandoned. After further investigation, it was discovered the vehicle, a 2013 Nissan Maxima, had been reported stolen by Statesville Police Department earlier in the evening.

 

Deputy N. Hodges and Canine “Levi” responded to the scene and began tracking the suspect.  Levi led the deputies in the direction of Scotts Creek Road. The suspect. Jason Bart Johnson was located on 312 Scotts Creek Road property, attempting to hide from deputies in the yard. 

 

Jason Bart Johnson was taken into custody by the deputies without further incident.

 

Johnson was transported to the Iredell County Detention Center, where he was charged with Felony Fleeing to Elude, Felony Possession of Stolen Motor Vehicle, Misdemeanor Resisting Public Officer, Misdemeanor Careless and Reckless Driving, Misdemeanor Injury to Real Property, Misdemeanor Driving While License Revoked. 

Johnson appeared before Magistrate S. Nicholson, who issued a 10,000.00 dollars secured bond on these charges.
