Iredell County Solid Waste applied for and was awarded a Diesel Emissions Reduction Grant by NC Division of Air Quality. This grant is intended to reduce diesel emissions significantly and is funded by federal EPA but administered by NC Division of Air Quality. Only four projects were selected last year and Iredell County Solid Waste is proud to have been among them. The award in the amount of $37,500 was used to offset a portion of the costs of a new roll-off truck that will be used to transport waste materials and recyclable commodities. The new truck promises to not only be more environmentally friendly in regards to emissions of diesel soot and Nitrous Oxides but is also more fuel efficient than older models. Driver Chuck White reports the new truck is awesome to drive; stating it is quieter and less tiring due to having an automatic transmission.
