[ARCHIVED] Alabama man charged with Felony Drug Trafficking after a traffic stop.

Offense(s)/Charge(s): Felony Trafficking MDMA by Possession

                                      Felony Trafficking MDMA by Transport

                                      Felony Possession with Intent to Sell of Deliver MDMA

 Location of Incident: 67 Mile Marker on Interstate 77 Northbound.

 Suspect(s): Michael David Cottrell Jr., 30 Years Old

Sheriff Darren Campbell stated: On Monday, June 28, 202, deputies with the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office Interstate Criminal Enforcement (ICE) Team conducted a traffic stop on a 2020 Chrysler Van, on Interstate 77 Northbound for a traffic violation. After stopping the van, the deputies met and spoke with Michael David Cottrell Jr.

 While speaking with Cottrell about the traffic violation, and the deputies detecting signs of criminal activity, Canine “Connie” and her handler were called to assist with the stop. “Connie” gave a positive alert to the odor and presence of narcotics.

 A search of the vehicle was made by the deputies. The search uncovered 186 MDMA tablets which were in two plastic baggies, hidden in a plastic food container inside of a backpack. The value of the pills is over 9,000.00 dollars.

 Cottrell was arrested on scene, and transported to the Iredell County Detention Center where he was charged with: Felony Trafficking MDMA by Possession, Felony Trafficking MDMA by Transportation, and Felony Possession with Intent to Sell or Deliver MDMA. 

 Cottrell appeared before Magistrate P. Tutterrow who issued a 150,000.00 dollar secured bond on these charges.
