[ARCHIVED] Statutory Sex Offender gets $1,500,000.00 Bond for 10 Charges

Sheriff Darren Campbell stated: On Monday, November 9, 2020, the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office received information on a sexual assault of a local high school student.  This student had been sexually assaulted by an acquaintance.

 

The case was assigned to Detective Sergeant Katie Campbell of the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office Special Victims Unit.  

 

The child was interviewed at the Dove House Children’s Advocacy Center. Based information received, and additional evidence gathered throughout this investigation, Detective Sergeant Campbell was able to receive Felony Arrest Warrants on Nathaniel Murry Smoot for Six Counts of Felony Statutory Sex Offense, and Four Counts of Felony Statutory Rape.

 

Nathaniel Murry Smoot was arrested on Saturday, January 16, 2021 and taken to the Iredell County Detention Center where he was served with the 10 warrants. He then appeared before Magistrate T. Thompson who issued a 1,500,000.00 dollar secured bond.
