Sheriff Darren Campbell stated: On Saturday, September 26, 2020 at approximately 9:09 one call was received about shots being fired in the area of Bacon Road, a short time later a second call was received in reference to a armed intoxicated man walking around in Jolly’s Campground.
Patrol Deputies quickly responded to the area. When they arrived several witnesses told the deputies where the suspect’s truck and trailer was, and it had become stuck in a muddy area.
Deputy Kevin Sherard, Deputy Justin Roberts and Lieutenant Dwayne Christian quickly responded to the area, where they located and detained the suspect, Randy Wayne Dowell.
Once Dowell was detained, the deputies conducted follow interviews with witnesses who stated this incident started out as a domestic argument between Dowell and a female. Witnesses described the suspect shooting three times. A search of the suspect’s vehicle and trailer located a pistol hidden under a mattress in the trailer.
Based on the statements and evidence gathered through the investigation, Randy Wayne Dowell was arrested on scene, and taken to the Iredell County Detention Center where he was charged with: Felony Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill, and Two Counts of Going Armed to the Terror of the Public.
Dowell appeared before Magistrate S. Watkins who issued a 15,000.00 dollar secure bond on these charges.
