[ARCHIVED] Lake Patrol Felony Drug Arrest

Sheriff Darren Campbell stated: The Iredell County Sheriff’s Office Lake Patrol had been receiving information about a Personal Water Craft (PWC) being operated in a very reckless manner in the area of McCreary Creek on Lake Norman by members of the community in this area. Attempts over several days to locate the PWC had been made, but were not successful.

On Saturday, 29, 2020, the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office Lake Patrol Deputies J. A. Church and E. C. Finch, along with members of the North Carolina Wildlife Resource Commission had established a surveillance operation in the area to locate and identify the individuals operating the water craft.  

Wildlife Officers stopped John William Cox III who was operating a personal watercraft. Lake Patrol Deputies arrived on scene, and began speaking with John William Cox III. 

While speaking with John William Cox III, the deputies discovered Cox to be in possession of 35 doses of Lysergic Acid Diethylamide (LSD), and a small amount of marijuana. Deputies took Cox into custody, and transported him to Iredell County Detention Center where he was charged with; Felony Possession with the Intent to Sell or Deliver Schedule I Controlled Substance (LSD), Misdemeanor Possession of Marijuana, and Misdemeanor Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Cox appeared before Magistrate T. Thompson who issued 15,000.00 dollar secured bond on these charges.

 Criminal history: Misdemeanor Larceny of a Motor Vehicle, Misdemeanor Assault, Three Counts of Felony Break or Enter Motor Vehicle, Felony Larceny of a Motor Vehicle, Felony Fleeing to Elude Arrest, Misdemeanor Possession of Schedule IV Controlled Substance, Felony Possession of Cocaine, Felony Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, Two Counts of Driving While License Revoked.
