Sheriff Darren Campbell stated: On Monday, August 10, 2020, Iredell County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Lieutenant D. Christian was at Phil’s Food Mart located at 4277 Wilkesboro Highway fueling his patrol car, when a lady approached him and said a man had broken into a vehicle and was going through it.
A search of the immediate area was made and the male was gone. Deputy K. Sherard arrived to assist in locating the suspect. The man was located across the road from the store at another business.
Deputies located the owner of the vehicle which and been broken into. Additional witnesses were located and interviewed.
The suspect, Alexander James Welborn, was arrested on scene. He was then transported to the Iredell County Detention Center where he was charged with; Felony Breaking and Entering of a Motor Vehicle, Misdemeanor Carrying a Concealed Weapon, and Misdemeanor Giving False Information to a Law Enforcement Officer.
Magistrate D. Chambers issued Welborn a 15,000.00-dollar secure bond on these charges.
