Sheriff Darren Campbell stated: On Saturday, March 21, 2020 Iredell County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Deputies were dispatched to the area of Teeter Road, and Linwood Road in reference to several breaking and entering of motor vehicles, and burglary of residences.
Upon arriving on location, the deputies were able to review surveillance camera footage from one of the victimized residences. Deputies saw were the suspects had fled the scene in a vehicle, described by a witness as a red colored passenger car.
After several witness interviews were made, Cody Lee Choate was developed as a suspect. Deputies attempted to locate Cody Choate throughout the day. Deputies took numerous reports of breaking and entering to motor vehicles and homes in the area with several items stolen including a firearm, Scuba equipment, and a camera.
Information about the suspect vehicle, and Cody Choate was sent to Mooresville Police Department. Later on in the day, the Mooresville Police Department were called to a home in the Cherry Grove subdivision. While responding to this call, Clayton Morrison Broyhill was located in a red Ford Focus sitting on the side of the roadway.
While investigating this incident, a firearm was located. It was determined the firearm was stolen from a car which had been reported broken into earlier in the day. Additional evidence was located identifying Cody Lee Choate.
Iredell County Sheriff’s Office Detectives obtained arrest warrants for Cody Lee Choate, and Clayton Broyhill.
Broyhill, was served with warrants for; Felony First Degree Burglary, Felony Break or Enter Motor Vehicle, Felony Larceny of a Firearm, Felony Larceny after Breaking and Entering. Magistrate R. Imes issued a 75,000.00 dollars secured bond on these charges for Clayton Broyhill.
Iredell County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Deputies and detectives went to Cody Lee Choate’s home at 551 Brumley Road near Mooresville, in an attempt to serve his outstanding warrants. Deputies located Cody Choate inside of the residence. Before the deputies could make entry into the home, Choate grabbed a butcher knife from the kitchen sink then barricaded himself inside the residence with his grandmother and uncle.
Deputies were able to talk Choate into putting the knife down, then to come out of the residence. Choate was immediately taken into custody without further incident. Choate was then transported to the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office where he appeared before Magistrate S. Watkins who issued a 75,000.00 dollar secured bond on these charges.
Detectives applied and received a search warrant for the residence at 551 Brumley Road. Once inside the home, they recovered numerous pieces of evidence worth approximately 13,000.00 dollars inside the bedroom of Cody Choate.
Deputies also located marijuana and marijuana paraphernalia inside of the residence. While searching the vehicles in the driveway of the home, one of them was discovered to have been stolen from a residence in the area of Wiggins Road in Mooresville. Deputies were able to make contact with the owner and assist them in recovering their vehicle.

Cody Lee Choate was released from the North Carolina Department of Adult Corrections on March 2, 2020.
